Your brain releases a chemical called dopamine, the same chemical that is released when you smoke, when you drink etc. In other words, it makes you feel good! The same goes for listening to music. Music changes your mood and leads to increased happiness and joy when you listen to music you like.

The point to boosting your running or workout performance is your choice of music. Choose something that inspires you to push yourself beyond limits you perceived and forward
3. Music decreases stress and improves general healthMusic has a prominent effect on your hormones. Listening to your preferred genre of music your body resists the urge to stress. The American Medical Association has noted that Stress causes 60% of all illnesses and diseases. Therefore a lower stress level equals higher general health.
4. Music encourages sleep
Over 30% of Americans suffer from insomnia. A study showed that listening to classical or relaxing music within an hour of going to bed significantly improves sleep, this is in large part due to the fact that music calms our nerves and helps relieve stress. As we said before, music effects your hormones and so does sleep so throwing in a some classical tunes doesn't hurt.
